Children's Faith Formation

contact Children's Faith Formation Coordinator olffaith@yahoo.com 410 923-6953
Welcome to Our Lady of the Fields Children’s Faith Formation. We are blessed with having over 900 children enrolled in our program. Please consider joining our dedicated volunteer teachers and their assistants by sharing your time and your faith with the children of our parish.

*The Faith Formation Registration Form*

To volunteer to help, or to register for our programs, the Faith Formation Registration Form is available in the breezeway and in the church office. It is also downloadable by pressing DOWNLOAD 11-12_reg._formpdf.pdf at the bottom of this page.

It is our privilege to be a partner with you as you share your faith with your children. The Faith Formation program is here to support you with the following:

Pre-school Faith Formation Classes

A limited number of pre-school classes are available for three and four-year old children on Sunday mornings. These are one hour classes and we are currently using a program from Our Sunday Visitor called "I Am Special". See the Faith Formation Registration Form for details.*

Faith Formation Classes for Kindergarten through Grade 8

To accommodate our busy families, Faith Formation classes for grades K- 8 are offered on Sunday morning and afternoon and on Tuesday and Wednesday after school. See the Faith Formation Registration Form* for details.

Sacramental Preparation

To prepare for the sacraments of First Eucharist (Communion) or First Reconciliation (Penance), a child must be enrolled in Faith Formation or attend Catholic School for one year prior to and also the year of preparation. Children in Catholic Schools prepare for and receive sacraments at their home parish. The family is directly involved in the preparation of their child for the sacraments. Meetings are held in the fall for families who will be preparing their children. To register a child for sacramental preparation, please use the Faith Formation Registration Form*.

RCIA for Children

The RCIA adapted for children is instruction for children between the ages of nine and seventeen, who have had little or no previous faith formation experience. They may be unbaptized, baptized Catholic or baptized in another Christian faith, and are seeking complete initiation in the Catholic Church. Classes begin in the fall and the process for children’sinitiation usually takes two years. If you know of any children or adults who are interested in becoming Catholic, contact the Faith Formation Office for more information or to register.

Children with Special Needs

They simply want to know God. Children with special needs or challenges have the right, like others their age, to know the "mystery of faith" and their loving God. Persons with special needs bring a wonderful dimension and unique gifts to the life of a parish. We need your help identifying children and their needs and provide support for all parents in their efforts to provide faith formation for their children. Please contact the Faith Formation Office for more information.

Liturgy of the Word for Children

Children ages 3-11 are invited to participate in Liturgy of the Word every Sunday at the 9:30 a.m. Mass. (No registration is required.) We take the children to a classroom to learn the sung responses and hear the Sunday readings presented in age-appropriate language. Please accompany your child the first time they attend.

Children’s Choir

Our Children’s Choir for children ages five and up sings at the 11:00 Mass once a month. They practice on Sunday mornings. For more information contact Teresa Dyer at olfchildrenschoir@verizon.net
