Confirmation
In the Archdiocese of Baltimore a young person receives their immediate preparation for Confirmation from their home parish. At Our Lady of the Fields Parish it is the practice to confirm students in the ninth grade. They may choose to delay this process, but the Sacrament is available to them beginning at that time. Please note that Catholic high schools do not prepare teens for Confirmation. Confirmation preparation is always done at the teen’s home parish.
**Teen’s must have completed religious education or attended Catholic school in the 8th grade to enroll in our program.
Our basic program requires Confirmation Candidates to:
1. Show proof that they were Baptized Roman Catholic.
2. Have a basic understanding of the Trinity, the Eucharist, the
Sacraments and the Catholic Church.
3. Attend Mass on a weekly basis.
4. Have knowledge of basic prayers.
5. Follow Confirmation class attendance requirements.
6. Show a desire to be a Confirmed Catholic and have an
understanding of what that means.
7. Complete 10 hours of service and turn in a Service Hour
Report.
8. Attend a weekend retreat.
9. Attend one Life Night.
10. Choose a Sponsor, complete the Sponsor Candidate
Packet, and complete the Sponsor Candidate Information
Sheet.
11. Choose a Confirmation Name and turn in a report on their
chosen name/Saint.
12. Have their sponsor turn in a certificate of “Catholic in Good
Standing” (unless sponsor is a parishioner at OLF).
13. Attend a Confirmation Interview with a member of the clergy
or staff.
14. Write a letter to the Bishop regarding Confirmation
preparation.
Registration for Confirmation begins in May for the upcoming school year. Registration forms can be found in the Faith Formation or the Youth Ministry Offices. Click to download a copy of the Parent Handbook. For more information please call Scott Link at (410) 729-1702.
