The Knights of Columbus are Catholic men of faith and charitable action. The newly formed Knights of Columbus Council at Our Lady of the Fields in Millersville has been named the William E. Baldwin, Sr. Council. We are a Catholic family fraternal organization that provides support to our priests, the Church, seminarians, and the community. We are also a pro-life organization that participates in charitable efforts in the community and reaches out to the needy and underserved in our area. About William E. Baldwin, Sr.

William E. Baldwin, Sr. was born on January 6, 1868 in the Bowie area.  Young Bill made a living as a pool player earning money off of the U.S. Congressmen and other wealthy men who hung out in Washington D.C. billiard parlors.  He later worked as a fireman for the Pennsylvania Railroad.  He married Anastasia on November 18, 1894 and settled on a farm near the hamlet of Chesterfield in Anne Arundel County (present day Millersville).  Bill and Anastasia had 7 children; 2 boys and 5 girls.  Bill was very devoted to the Blessed Mother Mary and named all of his daughters Mary.  It was said that he knew he was getting old when he was unable to do his 10 rosaries a day.  The land for the current location of Our Lady of the Fields parish was deeded to Bill in 1935 by the Woodward family.  Bill died on May 19, 1951 and in 1957 the Baldwin Family donated fifteen acres of land surrounding the original chapel site in his memory and the plans to build the new church proceeded.  In December 1957, the current building designed by Lucien Gaudrea and built by Stehle Brothers was completed.  Bill’s family still has a strong presence in the parish as well as the community. In fact, in 2022, a 6^th generation of Bill’s family was baptized at Our Lady of the Fields.
