Once again, Our Lady of the Fields is sending a team of adults to Jamaica to serve the residents of Jacob’s Ladder! Adults 18 years or older are invited to pray – is our Lord calling you? In Jamaica, we will serve some of the most vulnerable individuals in the area…beautiful souls who live with disabilities, beautiful souls who were abandoned but lovingly brought to the Mustard Seed community. On mission, we live in community with these residents doing small work projects, but mainly we spend time with them. About Mustard Seed Communities
Mustard Seed Communities (MSC) is an international Catholic nonprofit dedicated to caring for the most vulnerable populations throughout the developing world. MSC began in 1978 as a home for a handful of children with disabilities who had been abandoned to the streets of Jamaica. Today, MSC provides loving and lifelong care to over 600 children and adults with disabilities, children affected by HIV/AIDS, and young mothers in crisis across Jamaica, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Zimbabwe, and Malawi.
In past years, Our Lady of the Fields sent teens and adults as missionaries to a MSC community called Jacob’s Ladder, located just outside Moneague, Jamaica. Jacob’s Ladder provides shelter, health care, and community to 95 adult residents with varying degrees of developmental disabilities. While at Jacob’s Ladder, our missionaries participated in small work projects, and spent time in group prayer, reflection, and sharing. Most of all, they enjoyed getting to know the local residents.
